STD Awareness Ribbon
A National and International Effort to Increase Awareness of Sexually Transmitted Diseases
 Why Green?     (PMS#352C:  Light Green)

The color was carefully considered in light of its historical association the values of:

LIFE:   Associated with festivals and celebrations of birth and nature’s abundance.

STD staff are dedicated to protecting the life of both individuals and the local communities.  Working as part of the public health community, STD staff seek to improve lives through direct disease intervention, patient centered counseling, and education.

HEALTH:   Associated in various cultures with healing and vitality.

Both reflective of the mission of public health and the Bureau of STD, our collaborative efforts are driven with the goal of ensuring the health of our communities and citizens in Florida.  Each individual contributes to the effort through the daily activities of prevention, intervention, treatment, and control of the spread of diseases.

RENEWAL:    Associated in many culture’s traditions worldwide with a new beginning.

STD staff seeks to provide knowledge and the ability to begin again.  Public health serves this role in society to ensure that our communities are empowered with the tools needed to experience renewal.

Through the efforts of STD Prevention staff, health and quality of life for our local communities, is protected by provision of services which educate, renew, and create opportunities for growth.  STD Prevention staff make positive daily contributions to our communities.  The color of STD Awareness is complementary to these values and the mission of public health today, and will be in the future.
